There’s so much to do in the Tampa Bay area, but one of the best, most relaxing and fun activities is kayaking. The company Get Up & Go Kayaking which is right here in Tierra Verde, was recently ranked in Tripavisor’s  top 10 Best of the Best Things to Do for 2024 in the US. According to I Love The Burg, Get Up & Go Kayaking has over 30,000 five-star reviews.

A lot of iconic adventures made it to TripAdvisor's list like ziplining in Kauai, Alaska whale watching tours, Salem ghost tours, and more! So to have one of the top 10 experiences available to us all the time is super neat.

Other Florida experiences to make the list are 3-hour manatee swim tour (in-water guide), and Miami's Little Havana Food and Walking Tour.

The cool thing about this kayaking tour is you’ll get a CLEAR kayak and a tour guide. The tour guide will guide you through mangroves, take you to some of our beautiful beaches and hopefully you’ll see some of the local wildlife along the way. Birds, fish, and dolphins are a normal thing, but usually in the summer you may see manatees or pink Roseate Spoonbills.

Get Up & Go Kayaking offers daytime and nighttime tours. According to their website, if you choose the nighttime tour (known as the Glow Tour,) you’ll enjoy the sunset while you paddle around your clear kayak that’s equipped with color-changing LED light to illuminated the waters below.

The best part about these kayaking tours is it's relatively affordable Daytime tours cost $59 for adults, and $54 for kids, and nighttime tours are $64 per person. Check out their website for more info.

5 Places To Check Out While Scalloping In Homosassa

One of my all time favorite things to do in Florida is to go scalloping in Homosassa. Scallop season just started on July 1, so do yourself a favor and go enjoy this activity that’s fun for the whole family. All you need is a boat, know someone with a boat, (or rent one) a mask & snorkel, flippers and a mesh bag to put your scallops in. After a long day in the sun, you'll need a place to stop for some delicious food before heading back to Tampa. Here are my favorite restaurants in Homosassa.

Homosassa is only about an hour away from the Tampa/St. Pete area. If you’ve never been, here’s the basics. You snorkel around until you spot a scallop. You dive down to grab it and put it in your mesh bag until you get back on the boat. It’s kinda like a treasure hunt.

Florida Fish and Wildlife has a map showing all locations where you can go and the dates showing when scallop season starts and ends. My families favorite place to go scalloping is Homosassa. In Homosassa there’s plenty of great restaurants to choose from, you can hang out in the fresh water spring, which is perfect after scalloping in the salt water and no other place has Monkey Island.

Here’s my Top 5 restaurants to check out in Homosassa:

Crumps Landing

Crumps is our favorite all around place on Homosassa river. They have great food, amazing atmosphere, and a killer view. There’s a beach area for corn hole and huge playground area for the kids. Our fav’s are the gator bites and grouper sandwich.

The Freezer

The Freezer is in the cut and gives you more of a bar feel than a restaurant, but the food is outstanding. If the check this place out, bring cash and order the shrimp. It’s an absolute must!

Marguerita Grill

The atmosphere at Marguerita Grill is like no other. The menu is huge, we love the nachos, grilled octopus, and burgers.

Florida Cracker Kitchen

You get a little bit of everything here. You can get a delicious breakfast on your way out to scallop or stop by for lunch after you’re done. The kids can grab some ice cream while you grab something to at the Monkey Bar. All while taking in a beautiful view of the river

MacRae’s

Listen to live music as the boats cruise down the river, while eating great food and some cold beers
