When Tampa Streetcar Free Rides Could End
They’ve been free to ride for the past three years, but the free rides might be coming to an end. Channel 8 is reporting tonight that those TECO streetcars that take you from Ybor to Sparkman Wharf and Amalie Arena could start charging you for those rides this fall.
When would the free rides end?
The free rides could end October 1. That’s when money runs out from the grant they’ve been using to subsidize those free rickety rides you’ve been taking. They’re hoping that they’ll get money somewhere to keep the free rides going because having to collect fares would certainly slow service down.
How much would the rides cost?
If the money runs out and they do have to charge for the cable car rides, you can expect to pay $2.50 for a one way ride. Or you would be able to pay $5 instead and ride all day.
