As long as those pets are part of families, there will be the need for services, pet-friendly parks, restaurants and stores. There are over 90 million American households with pets. According to American Pet Products Association, pets cost $136.8 billion in 2022.
Wallethub.com crunched the latest numbers. They looked at three key areas: Pet Budget, Pet Health & Wellness and Outdoor Pet-Friendliness.
The results shown by Wallethub say that two of the top cities on this list of 100 cities are in the Tampa Bay area. The number one city on the list is Scottsdale, Arizona. Then, we focus on Florida. Number two on the list is Tampa. Number three is St. Petersburg. Orlando came in at number 15 and Miami at 20. That gives Florida four spots in the top 20, more than any other state.
Miami, Tampa and Orlando tied for the "Most veterinarians per capita. St. Pete was second on the list of most "Pet businesses per capita." Orlando was atop the list of most "Dog-friendly restaurants per capita."

It's always on dog-parent's mind whenever they go out. Can I bring my dog? With so many outdoor restaurants in the Tampa Bay area, a lot of places are accommodating to our four-legged babies. Some even have canine-friendly food on their menu. Whether you want to be near downtown Tampa or by the beach in St. Pete, we have the list of places to bring along your best friend.
