D-Bag Carves His Name on the Colosseum
Add the Colosseum to the list of places that may get ruined for the rest of us by the dumb, after video surfaces of a tourist as he carves his name on the Colosseum wall!
Yes, the one in Rome. A wonders of the ancient world. THAT Colosseum. And a fellow tourist happened to walk up, camera rolling, as this colossal d-bag was right in the middle of carving his name on the ancient structure. We’ve said it time and again, the dumb are going to ruin places like the Colosseum for the rest of us, because they will eventually have to close them to the public.
In this case, our d-bag in question is already in the middle of carving something on the wall with his keys as the guy behind the camera walks up and asks him what he’s doing. He just looks towards the camera and smiles, like there’s nothing wrong at all with what he is doing. The video was uploaded to YouTube and Reddit, where it was met with outrage by the online community. Many of commenters were calling for the man’s arrest. The original poster of the video did respond, letting people know that he turned the footage over to Colosseum staff.
Laws in Italy strictly prohibit defacing of historic monuments, such as the Colosseum and anyone one caught violating the law could face serious consequences, including hefty fines and even possible jail time. Eventually both tourists (the guy caught on camera as he carves his name on the Colosseum and the woman he was with) were picked up and formally charged with “aggravated damage to a building of historical and artistic interest,” according to the Italian news outlets and were fined $21,808.
