Playboy: Are They Going After OnlyFans?
Playboy magazine was for the articles, right? Well, the print version died three years ago. Playboy‘s content is now exclusively available on their website. So, where did consensual adult performers migrate to? Sites like OnlyFans. That is where they can be in charge of what they will and won’t do. Putting creators in charge of their own content leaves sites like Playboy in the dust, popularity-wise.
Now, Playboy is going after OnlyFans. Gone are the Playboy Bunnies. Instead, the women will be called “Playboy Creators” and they will post adult and non-adult content to the site. Fans can subscribe to their online adult content.
Playboy says they hand-picked these ladies for their new digital magazine. They’re marketing it as an alternative to OnlyFans. The online publication will serve as an entry to what Playboy is calling, an “elevated,” “safe” and “exclusive” alternative to OnlyFans.
The New Playboy
The NY Post obtained a copy of Playboy’s first-ever digital cover, which features model Amanda Cerny. Cerny has made more than $1 million as a Playboy creator using the beta version of the platform, “Centerfold.”
But Playboy had better get a move on if they want to catch up to OnlyFans. TechJury has OnlyFans by the numbers and it’s pretty staggering:
- Over 170 million users have registered an OnlyFans account, including 1.5 million creators.
- An additional 500,000 new users sign up to the OnlyFans per day.
- The OnlyFans platform grows at a rate of 70% per month!
- In total, OnlyFans pays out over $5 billion to its collective of content creators each year.
- Bella Thorne made over $1 million in her first 24 hours of having an account.
- The average age of paid subscription members is 35-44.
- The average OnlyFans content creator only has 21 subscribers.
Playboy‘s main source of income since the magazine shut down has been in selling its image. Their brand has been sold to alcohol companies and apparel, among other companies. This latest digital content creator release is where the company hopes to take over again as a leader in adult content.
