Pics Of The NEW Tampa Convention Center
I’m on the Selmon Expressway every single weekday, and I’ve witnessed the changes happening to the Tampa Convention Center on a daily basis. While the facility has hosted some cool events over the years, it was getting a bit dated. That’s why an overhaul was begun this year.
In the just-released renderings, a new facade can be seen. Outdoor accents give the building a nautical theme, while becoming more angular and geometrical. To be honest, it’s not gonna be confused with the Dali Museum, but it is a visually pleasing structure.
Back in the day, the building was designed to look like a very large ship on the water, at least that’s what they told me as I cruised by on the Pirate Water Taxi a couple of years ago. While that was a pretty cool concept, it gave me a Tom Sawyer/Huck Finnn vibe that didn’t necessarily scream 2022 and beyond. The revisions will cost the city $38 million dollars before all is said and done, but many of the features will ensure a better experience for visitors and some will even save money for taxpayers. Some of the interior upgrades include an additional 18,000 square feet of meeting space, with many rooms featuring full length windows that face the water. The project began about a year ago and will finsih in June of 2023. Source: CLTampa.com
