TRAFFIC ALERT: If you’re a late night or early morning commuter, be aware that the Howard Franklin Bridge will be closed for six hours on Monday, August 16. Save yourself a headache from detours and rerouted traffic and plan ahead. The bridge will be closed from 11 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday. If the weather permits.
The city of Tampa said the road closure is necessary for crews to install overhead signs as part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s Gateway Expressway project.
If crossing the bridge is apart of your commute, here are your detours. First, I-275 southbound in Tampa will direct you to exit at U.S. 92 (Dale Mabry), Exit 41A. Detoured traffic will go south to Gandy Blvd. to cross the Gandy Bridge into St. Petersburg. OR you can take I-275 to exit 39 (towards Tampa airport/Clearwater) to take the Courtney Campbell across to Clearwater.
This road closure will not affect northbound traffic on I-275.
