Florida Woman Uses Underwire Bra to Attempt Jail Escape

Ya gotta do what you gotta do to get sprung from the pokey, especially when you're a drunk snowbird in a strange land. An honorary Florida woman earned her title by an attempted breakout from jail using her underwire bra as a tool to open her jail cell lock.

According to Villages News, the story began when police say 59-year-old Susan Mae Sheppard was out driving her red Lincoln SUV. They say they suspected the woman of driving under the influence after following her in a cruiser.

Initially, the woman agreed to a sobriety test. She changed her mind, however, after she began to perform poorly on the tasks. When she took a Breathalyzer test, her BAC was .000.

She agreed to a urine sample test, then was taken to a local hospital, where she was booked for DUI. While Sheppard was in a holding cell at the jail, a guard observed her as she removed the metal wire from her bra and tried to make an escape tool with it, scratching the paint around her cell door.

When jailers confronted the woman, they found her legs hanging out of the door. They helped her remove her legs form the door and placed her back n the cell.

Now, in addition to the DUI charge, Sheppard faces a felony charge of attempted escape and damage to property. She posted a bond of $11,500 and was released until her court date.
