Florida Man Lights Jesus Statue on Fire

Author Sean Roberts
October 25th, 2021 8:46 AM
He set the statue on fire, then headed toward the other victims.

Citrus County Deputies arrested a Florida man on Friday for lighting a statue of Jesus in the parking lot of a Beverly Hills church. Deputies were called to the scene of what was called a brush fire at about 7 a.m.

When they got there, they discovered something else entirely. According to WBTW, a witness at the church told them that a man had run up to a statue of Jesus and a tree that was close by, doused them in gasoline, and set them both on fire.

The man could not be located. Later in the day, however, another fire was reported.

A private residence was damaged when a fence was covered in gasoline and then lit. Finally, a complete house was set ablaze, causing heavy damage.

No one was injured during the fire. Thanks to video surveillance and the information of witnesses, police later identified the suspect as 25-year-old James Lee Harris of Beverly Hills.

Harris is now incarcerated and charged with several counts, including arson to a dwelling, criminal mischief and arson/criminal mischief to a church.

Can A Cover Be Better Than The Original?

10 Covers Better Than The Original

  • Manfred Mann’s Earth Band – “Blinded By The Light”

    Share

All due respect to The Boss, but Manfred Mann’s arrangement is just leaps and bounds better.

  • Joe Cocker – “With A Little Help From My Friends”

    Share

Speaking of arrangement changes, it takes a lot of guts to cover The Beatles, but Joe Cocker’s cover of “With A Little Help From My Friends” never fails to move a room.

  • Joan Jett & The Blackhearts – “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll”

    Share

Want to know the best way to tell a cover is better than the original?  When people often don’t realize a cover is a cover.  That’s how amazing “I Love Rock N Roll” is.

  • Aretha Franklin – “Respect”

    Share

(See explanation for “I Love Rock N Roll.”)

  • Janis Joplin – “Me and Bobby McGee”

    Share

This song was originally recorded by Roger Miller and was written by Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster, but sweet Pearl’s rendition is obviously the best.

  • Soft Cell – “Tainted Love”

    Share

Gloria Jones originally released “Tainted Love” in 1965, while Soft Cell’s version came out in 1981.

  • The Beatles – “Twist and Shout”

    Share

“Twist and Shout” was originally recorded in 1961 by a group called The Top Notes.  It then became a hit for the Isley Brothers in 1962, and then The Beatles and John Lennon’s iconic vocals happened in 1963, and you know the rest.

  • The Clash – “I Fought The Law”

    Share

Arguably the edgiest cover on the list.  “I Fought The Law” was originally recorded by The Crickets in 1960 and then covered by the Bobby Fuller Four in 1965.  The Clash’s rendition, however, is the only cover that matters.

  • The Byrds – “Mr. Tambourine Man”

    Share

The Byrds’ cover was released the same year Bob Dylan released the original in 1965.  Talk about guts!

  • The Jimi Hendrix Experience – “All Along The Watchtower”

    Share

Man!  When’s Bob Dylan going to catch a break?  “All Along The Watchtower” was released on the Dylan album 'John Wesley Harding' in December 1967.  Hendrix dropped his cover in September 1968.

  • LL Cool J (Musical Excellence Award)

    Share

LL Cool J has been called the Little Richard of hip-hop. Both artists combined youthful exuberance, massive charisma, and incredible musical talent to launch their respective genres of rock & roll to fans around the world. LL was still a teenager when he became the face of Def Jam records – his 1985 'Radio' was the label’s first album. He ushered in hip-hop’s second wave with hard-hitting singles like “I Need a Beat,” “I Can’t Live Without My Radio,” and “Rock the Bells.” LL’s work with Def Jam paved the way for future label mates Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, and Slick Rick.

  • Billy Preston (Musical Excellence Award)

    Share

Session musician. Singer. Songwriter. Touring musician. The Fifth Beatle. Billy Preston blazed a path through the history of rock & roll with the smoking sounds of his B3 organ, the funky rhythms of his clavinet, and the exciting tones of his gospel-inspired vocals and piano. A child prodigy, Billy played organ with Mahalia Jackson, and in 1957 at the age of 10, he appeared on the 'Nat King Cole Show,' performing a duet with Cole – trading vocal parts and organ licks – Preston’s natural talent shining through.

After recording two albums with Quiet Riot (the band he cofounded in 1973), Rhoads joined ex-Black Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne's new solo band in 1979. In many ways due to Rhoads' stunning guitar work, Osbourne's first solo release, 'Blizzard of Ozz' (1980), is recognized as one of heavy metal’s greatest albums, and its biggest single, “Crazy Train,” features one of the most recognizable guitar riffs ever played.

  • Kraftwerk (Early Influence Award)

    Share

  • Gil Scott Heron (Early Influence Award)

    Share

Poet, novelist, scholar and musician, Gil Scott-Heron was many things during his prolific career but above all, in the words of music critic Nelson George, “he was a teller of uncomfortable truths.” Scott-Heron’s career path was unconventional, mirroring his nonconformist approach to music.

  • Charley Patton (Early Influence Award)

    Share

Before Jimi Hendrix mastered the guitar, before Chuck Berry pioneered rock & roll, and even before Robert Johnson had strummed a single chord – Charley Patton did it all. Without the Father of the Delta Blues, American popular music as we know it would not exist.

Sean Roberts was conceived in the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky by two passionate, panel aligning, third shifters who had grown bored with the same ole same ole. Upon birth, he was placed in the trunk of a new Stingray and sent off to find his destiny. That destiny included several stints on radio stations across the United States. Some played punk country gospel, while others focused on Croatian death metal played backwards. After many years and many adventures, Sean wound up on The Shark, where he does shots of tequila while playing the most badass tunes ever created by humankind. He remains humble, however, never forgetting about the lean years...the street corners and dark alleys where he played songs on his car stereo for food and sex. He's on top and he's never gonna stop LIVING THE DREAM!
