How Much it Costs to Rent in Tampa, St. Pete and Clearwater
It’s a crazy world these days, especially when it comes to housing.
Those of us who have lived in the Bay for a while have seen unbelievable jumps in rent and home prices. According to WTSP, The average one-bedroom apartment in Tampa is about $1,600 a month.
A similar apartment in Clearwater is a bit cheaper, at about $1,575 monthly. While less expensive housing can be found, you have to ask yourself if you are comfortable with the location and amenities.
One thing you will absolutely want to keep in mind is the prices are only going to go up. You’ll want to lock down your rent price as soon as possible before it rises again.
Over half a million new residents have moved here in the last year, and the professionals say there will not be a slow down for at least five more years. An estimated 50,000 new apartments will be needed every year just to keep up with demand.
Also, if construction does not keep the pace, rent prices will spike…and no one wants that. Generally, the most expensive neighborhoods in our area are Hyde Park, Harbour Island, the Channel and Uptown.
You can expect to pay about $2,000 a month in those areas. The most affordable spots are North Tampa, University Square and neighborhoods close to Al Lopez Park.
The same one-bedroom apartment in those neighborhoods will cost you about $1,000 a month. Finally, while utilities and healthcare are typically less in Florida, transportation and groceries tend to cost more.
