You know about the sales tax holiday for back to school shopping. You know about the one to pick up hurricane supplies. Without much fanfare, another sales tax free is on the table.
This one’s a little strange. A sales tax break on back to school and hurricane supplies… it’s kind of a no-brainer. Those items are vital. Students need materials for school. And Floridians need to be well-prepared when the weather gets wild.
But what about concert and sporting event tickets? Under a proposal, Florida politicians have come up with “Freedom Week.” From July 1 to July 7, you wouldn’t have to pay a sales tax on concerts, movie tickets, or tickets to things like Tampa Bay Lightning, Rays or Bucs games. Before you get too excited, you’d still have to pay those big ticket fees we all just LOVE! The tickets don’t have to be for events happening during the sales tax holiday week. You can buy them sales tax free for events happening later in the year.
You’ll also avoid paying sales tax on admission to state parks, tents, sleeping bags, fishing tackle, snorkels, camping chairs, binoculars, sunglasses, inflatable tubes… even sunblock. [Source: Florida Politics]
