Florida Gators football coach Dan Mullen has been slapped with a $25,000 fine and reprimand by the SEC following a massive on-field brawl after the final play of the first half in Saturday’s match up with Missouri.

ESPN reports Mullen had to be held back by other staff; though, he later said he was only trying to get his players off the field.

Numerous players on both teams have been suspended for the first half of each’s up coming game as several punches were thrown.

The fight broke out following a questionable hit on the Gators’ quarterback. Mullen later adding, “They’re going to protect him… That’s their guy.”

SEC fines are paid to a postgraduate scholarship program.

Was the hit on Kyle Trask flagrant? Should criminal penalties apply to in-game assaults – just as they would if the fight had occurred in a parking lot? Would that curb incidents like this?
