FLASHBACK: Bowie Performing “Space Oddity” In 1970
Fifty years ago today (July 11), David Bowie released his breakout song “Space Oddity,” and truth be told, the world was never the same.
The iconic track signaled an imminent changing of the guard in music, and while the wonder that was Ziggy Stardust was a couple of years away, this was Bowie’s first “giant leap for mankind,” if you will.
Take a look at the video below of a rare early television performance of “Space Oddity.” The musical subject of Major Tom may have been a clue as to what was to come, but who would’ve thought this lovely man in the peach bell bottoms would soon become the “leper messiah?”
