Red Tide Detected Close To Anna Maria Island

It's BAAACCCKK! Red Tide has been found south of Anna Maria Island. Officials say very low levels of the red tide organism has been detected in Sarasota Bay. A sample taken on Monday at the Longboat Pass boat ramp in Sarasota Bay showed a very low level of the red tide organism.

While last year's outbreak of red tide caused horrific images of dead fish and deserted beaches, there have been no reported incidents of fish kills or respiratory irritation related to red tide yet.

The good news? Conditions seem to have already improved after a daily sample taken today. Red tide also appeared in at very low levels in a sample collected on May 8 in Charlotte County.
